Life is Like a Deck of Cards
It’s Thanksgiving in the USA this weekend and I was thinking about the situation we’re all facing these days. It seems as if people have lost proportion of what is going on in the world, just because Wall Street is a bit shaky. It’s as if a few points of the Dow Jones has managed to blind us all to how fortunate we are all, every day that we live and that actually we were dealt with, probably, one of the best hands in the house called LIFE.
Many years ago I read somewhere that life is like a deck of cards or playing a game of poker to win. We are dealt a hand and it is up to us what we decide to keep and how we play. It can be good or bad but it is our decision.
The day that we are born, into this world you see, we were dealt a hand of cards, of how our life was meant to be. Now we have many choices, some good or bad to take, but what we chose to keep and play, marks the type of life we make.
Do you realize that if you’re living today, you were given the best time in history to live in? Never before were there so many people that were so wealthy. Never before in history were there so many people that could have a say in what their rulers do. Never before in history was there so much freedom of expression to so many people.
If you are a woman, never before in history did you have so many possibilities of using your potential and doing your own thing.
Too many if us tend to focus on the small stuff and sweat upon it. How about looking at it from the bigger picture of things?
Do you know that if we could reduce the world’s population to a village of precisely 100 people, and you take a look at the world from this condensed perspective, you’ll realize very quickly how fortunate you are if you have books at home, computer and an internet connection and you have basic or even higher education.
If you have all that you are more fortunate than 93% of the population!
Think of it!
If you woke up this morning with more health than sickness, you are luckier than the million that will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced a war, a loneliness of an imprisonment, an agony of tortures or a famine
You are happier, than 500 million persons in this world.
If you are able to go to church, mosque or synagogue without fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death, you are happier, than 3 billion persons in this world.
If there is a meal in your refrigerator, if you are dressed and have got shoes, if you have a bed and a roof above your head, you are better off, than 75% of people in this world.
If your parents are still alive and still married, then you are a rarity.
If you have a bank account, money in your purse and there is some trifle in your coin box, you belong to 8% of the richest people in this world.
Just recognize that you have so much to be blessed upon. Next time you open your mouth to complain about economy, food, education, quality of water or even your spouse or kids, just realize that there are millions out there that would be more than happy to change places with you.
Take this time of Thanksgiving and start appreciating all your blessings and give thanks to it!
Remember you probably got the best hand in the house if you are able to read this entry!
Happy Thanksgiving!
