Lakshmi - the Gift of Abundance
It’s the height of summer. Time when all the earth is fully ripe and the fruits are in abundance. It’s time when nature shows how abundant it is. It’s the time of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi.
Lakshmi means Good Luck to Hindus. The word ‘Lakshmi’ is derived from the Sanskrit word Laksya, meaning ‘aim’ or ‘goal’, and she is the goddess of wealth and abundance, both material and spiritual.
Lakshmi is depicted as a beautiful woman of golden complexion, with four hands, sitting or standing on a full-bloomed lotus and holding a lotus bud, which stands for beauty, purity and fertility. Her four hands represent the four ends of human life: dharma or righteousness, kama or desires, artha or wealth, and moksha or liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Cascades of gold coins are seen flowing from her hands, suggesting that those who worship her gain wealth. She always wears gold embroidered red clothes. Red symbolizes activity and the golden lining indicates prosperity. Lakshmi is the active energy of Vishnu, and also appears as Lakshmi-Narayan - Lakshmi accompanying Vishnu.
Lakshmi is such a special Goddess. She’s magical, and practical. she represents and is seen as the personification of abundance, prosperity, wealth, well-being and harmony.
Lakshmi is a goddess who brings all good things to light and to life! She has one of the most colorful creation myths of all the deities in the Hindu pantheon. It is said Goddess Lakshmi was born, fully-grown, on a pink lotus that rose from the milky sea. She was immediately be-decked, be-jeweled and worshipped by the gods and sages. They prayed that she would come to their homes, and to their worlds, for they believed that where Lakshmi is you will also find riches and fulfillment.
Lakshmi is considered the animating force or Shakti of Vishnu, the Preserver. Her sacred animal is the cow, symbol of abundance and plenty.
Lakshmi appears in your life to tell you it is time to nurture wholeness by recognizing and living firm abundance.
Is your existence defined and contained by the parameters of scarcity rather than abundance? Are your finances based on poverty consciousness rather than limitlessness and plenty? Is your outlook on life one of never having enough rather than having your needs met?
Let yourself open to the abundance, the bounty that exist in your world. Lakshmi says abundance is hard to perceive if lack, poverty and scarcity dominate your consciousness.
The way to wholeness for you lies in opening to the flow of abundance in the universe and recognizing the abundance in your life. When you open to the flow, you become part of it and you draw it to you.
When you become aware of the abundance in your life in all its forms – friendship, health, family, love, beauty, talent, humor etc.. – you can call in more from a conscious place.
Make a list of all that you have in your life. For example: a home, lover(s), friends, children, food, talent, beauty, cloths, health, animals, wealth etc… Once you have completed that list allow yourself to be grateful for all that you have in your life. Give yourself a present of gratitude for all that you have achieved to create and realize that only once we are fully heated grateful on the abundance that we have can there be room for more to enter into our lives.
Enjoy your day!
